I just finished reading the book, Trim Healthy Mama, and I couldn’t wait to share! In the book, sisters Serene Allison and Pearl Barrett, write about their own experience in trying to find that “magic pill” to make them thin, healthy, and vibrant.
These sisters have taken all of the information I already had about eating healthy–limiting sugar intake, eating whole foods, etc.–and put it into a better plan than I could have ever come up with, one that is designed to keep blood sugar levels stable. After all, it is spiking blood sugar that causes fat storage in the first place. (Read this article for more information about that.)
I started eating this way about 10 days ago, before I even finished the book. I’m sure I’m not doing it all exactly right, but the sister authors even remind us that it’s okay to not do it perfectly all the time.
In the almost 2 weeks since I’ve been eating this way, I have seen several positive changes.
1. My muffin top appears smaller! I can’t tell you if I’ve lost any pounds, because I don’t own a scale.
2. I have more energy. I’m getting stuff done, and I feel good about it.
3. We are saving money, because I am doing a better job at planning our meals at home.
4. I have been able to say ‘no thank you’ to cupcakes, ice cream, and other sweet things that I normally wouldn’t have had the will power to walk away from.
I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about their liberal use of stevia since I have always had issues with artificial sweeteners. Aspartame gives me a headache, and I get nauseated almost immediately if I consume even a tiny amount. From what I can tell, the jury is split on whether stevia is good for a body or not. It seems that the controversy lies in the quality of stevia used and whether or not any fillers are added to the final product. I used the information in the book and did my own research and have decided that I will use, in moderation, the purest form of stevia that I can afford. So far, the results/tastes have been much better than expected.
After so many failed attempts at maintaining a healthy weight, I am finally hopeful that this is a lifestyle change that I can maintain long-term. I’ll keep you posted…
*Forgive me for no ‘before’ and ‘after’ picture. I see results, but I don’t think the changes are dramatic enough (yet) for others to see. Hopefully, soon, I’ll have some great photos to share.
