It’s getting close to the end of the school year, and I am eagerly looking forward to & planning for the next. As Jesse will be entering “junior high”, I am even more focused on finding the RIGHT curriculum for him. But how do you know if something will work for YOUR student if you’ve never used it before? And what if you can’t find any other homeschool moms that have used it?
Well, Heidi over at Chatter, Clatter, and Things that Matter has many reviews on her blog, as she is a part of TOS Homeschool Crew. I was specifically looking for a review for Total Language Plus, but Heidi had no experience with this curriculum. However, she did point me in the direction of a very helpful website… HomeSchool Reviews has lots of reviews on lots of different products by REAL homeschool moms. I love it, and I have found answers to all my curriculum questions for 7th grade!! YAY!!!
That’s wonderful, Stephanie. I’m still wondering what we’ll do next year. I’m leaning toward sticking with SOS for Dacey and maybe going with LifePacs for Jaden and Isaac. Still not 100% sure yet though.
We don’t homeschool, but we do the charter school thing 🙂 I have one going into 7th grade too… scary!
I was happy to discover your Life with these Kids blog today. I was unable to find an email link in your profile. I hope it’s OK that I’m contacting you through a public comment. I’ve developed an educational program for Windows called SpellQuizzer that helps children learn their spelling words without the battle that parents often have getting them to sit down and write them out while the parents dictate to them. The parent enters the child’s spelling words into the software making a sound recording of each word. Then the software helps the child practice his or her words. It really helped my children with their weekly spelling lists.
I would appreciate your reviewing SpellQuizzer in Life with these Kids. You can learn more about the program at http://www.SpellQuizzer.com. There’s a video demo you can watch at http://www.spellquizzer.com/SpellQuizzer-Demo.htm. I’d be happy to send you a complimentary license for the software. Please let me know if you are interested.
Thank you very much!

Hi Stephanie,
Thanks for linking my blog! You piqued my curiosity with your inquiry about Total Language Plus and I checked it out at a convention I attended. It looked like a decent program! I’m glad you were able to find some helpful reviews at the other website.
I have a junior high student myself and know what you mean about pressure to find the “right” materials!
