Tungurahua is a volcano near Ambato, Ecuador (about 2 hours away) that has received international attention lately as it began to spit and spurt lava several weeks ago. We made an evening trip to Banos (half-way between us and Ambato) to try to get a glimpse of lava flow. That trip was fun, but clouds and smoke obscured our view.
In our homeschool, we used this opportunity to do a short unit study on Volcanoes. We learned about magma and lava and different rock formations, the “ring of fire” and Mt. Vesuvius.
Here is video of the girls erupting their very own homemade volcano.
And such a pretty volcano, too!! Great job, girls!! 🙂
