1 Corinthians 6:19-20, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
This verse challenges me to consider the care I give to my body. Not only the food I consume and the exercise I try to do, but also the thoughts and images I allow into my mind, the conversations that I allow myself to be a part of, and the amount of time that I spend focused in God’s Word.
A nurse practitioner friend confirmed recently what I already knew: In order to have great health, the physical, emotional, and spiritual parts of the body must be in balance. Now friends, that is not hocus pocus or New Age thinking. That is plain and simple truth. King David spoke of his sin affecting his health in the Psalms (Psalm 32:3-4 to be exact) and Solomon told us that a merry heart (or a cheerful attitude) is good for our health in Proverbs 17:22.
C.S. Lewis said, “You are not a body. You are a soul. You have a body.” Our souls are eternal, but our bodies are not. Our bodies are on loan from the One who made us. It is our responsibility to be good stewards of those bodies.
So I am challenged to continue healthy eating (Trim, Healthy Mama<-affiliate link), mindful movement (T-Tapp), and positive thinking (Bible) as I attempt to be a good steward of all that God has entrusted me with, and that includes this body.
Dear God, help me to remember that my body is the temple of Your Holy Spirit. Help me to care for it well–physically, spiritually, and emotionally. And help me to do as Your Word commands and honor You with my body. ~Amen
