Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. ~Ephesians 5:1-2
This passage has been on my heart a lot lately. The Mr. and I have recently witnessed several marriages fall apart and a few more on the brink of divorce. It’s heartbreaking…
I can’t help but think and relate to my own marriage and the times when we’ve been less than content with each other… It’s in those times that we forgot that marriage is about serving one another, not about being served. It’s been in those times when we (I) didn’t want to give ourselves up for the other.
What a shame… God’s way really is the best way, and my best advice to any couple is to learn this Scripture and live it.
It’s not always easy, but it is SO worth it.
I am seeing a lot of struggling marriages, too. It is sad. Because I know what a great marriage can be like. I wish everyone could have what I have…but it takes a lot of work. A LOT. It takes dying to self. It means having Jesus Lord of my life – completely and fully. It means forgiveness and grace. It means praying daily…sometimes many times! It means looking to God for ultimate fulfillment instead of my husband.
Thanks for sharing your wise words on Grace and Truth.
Hi Aimee, thanks for stopping by and taking time to comment. I’m committing to pray more often for not only my marriage, but the marriages around me. ~Steph
