How to Feed Your Family When You Don’t Have a Kitchen

About four weeks ago, we bought a house that needed some updating and renovating. We’ve replaced stained carpet with laminate floors and painted every. single. room in the house. We took out a wall and half of another one. Unfortunately, our carpenter has run into delays–with other projects he’s had going on, not ours–and just last week, he was bit by a brown recluse spider. No bueno!

Needless to say, our kitchen remodel is not yet complete. But we decided to move in anyway. We still have a few small projects to complete on our own, but we felt they may be easier to complete if we live here rather than driving between our current home and the new one.

Kitchen renovation means no stove and no oven. (The only working appliance is the refrigerator.) Eating out for every meal is just too expensive. So how exactly am I going to feed my hungry family?

feed a family no kitchenFirst of all, I’m going to utilize all those great kitchen appliances that are meant to make our lives easier. I’ll be using my crockpot, griddle, waffle iron, and our outdoor grill. And I’ll admit, I’m not a fan of a microwave, but it may be necessary this week.

Here’s what we’ll be eating…

Breakfasts: Oatmeal, Cereal, Eggs (x2), Pancakes, Waffles, Yogurt

Lunches: Sandwiches, Salads, Soups, Leftovers, Grilled Meats (Mix & Match)

Dinners: Grilled Burgers, Grilled Chicken, Quinoa Chicken Chili (from the freezer), Red Beans/Rice (from the freezer), Crockpot Chicken, and maybe this Vegetable Beef Soup since that’s The Mr.’s favorite soup. He’ll consider it a treat!

I thought this would be more difficult, but after a little planning, I realize that it is possible (and not very difficult at all) to feed the family without a stove/oven. Now… about doing dishes without a kitchen sink or dishwasher… Well, that’s another story.
